The Costa do Estoril is often called the Portuguese Riviera. The coast is varied, with rocks and beautiful sandy beaches. The cottages are located here in the proximity of the charming, atmospheric resorts Cascais and Estoril, at approx. half an hour's drive of Lisbon. In summer you can take the coast train to Lisbon.

The Costa Azul is slightly more southern and has magnificent beaches and gorgeous sea views, and varied nature. The laguna Lagoa de Albufeira, the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Tejo, the largest wetland of Portugal, and the spectacular Parque Natural da Arrábida can all be found here too. The town of Sintra is a recommended excursion from your cottage in Lisbon. This little gem is an UNESCO world heritage site, and was the summer residence of kings in the past. Admire here the Palácio Nacional de Sintra, the Palácio da Pena (and the park) and Castelo dos Mouros. The fishing village Sesimbra is picturesque, and the walled town of Obidos is worth a visit. For nature lovers the Parque Natural Sintra-Cascais is a must.

And experience the atmosphere in the slightly dilapidated but colourful, working-class district of Alfama, Lisbon's oldest district. Here you can stroll along the narrow streets and enjoy the moody fado music in one of the fado restaurants or cafés. The Bairro Alto and the Docas are very cosy in the evenings, and it will probably be very late before you go back to your cottage!
