Attica

The Attica region is a peninsula at the most southeastern tip of the Greek mainland. The area is characterized by a whimsical landscape with mountains, plains, the sea, and of course Athens, the capital of Greece. Attica is a holiday destination with diversity. Enjoy the many beautiful beaches, immerse yourself in the history of the island, or trek into the mountains. Holiday homes on Attica are mostly authentic houses built in the characteristic Greek style.

Visit the historic city of Athens

From your holiday home in Attica, visit the city of Athens, a vibrant city full of history. This ancient city is named after Pallas Athens, goddess of wisdom and struggle, and once the patron saint of the city. The Acropolis is the main crowd puller and towers high above the city. It is a huge area full of excavations, including several theatres and temples. At the foot of the Acropolis, you will find the Herodeion, an amphitheatre from 161. The Olympeion, the temple of supreme god Zeus, is half a kilometre away. However, the vast majority of the buildings in Athens are of a more recent date. The city offers many attractive, old districts with winding streets, a large variety of entertainment venues, countless shops, Greek art and of course, various museums, including the famous Archaeological Museum. After a day in this metropolis, it's great to come home to your 'own' holiday home in Attica.

Port towns of Piraeus and Rafina

Enjoy a holiday home in Attica by the sea, and relax. Picturesque little harbours create an excellent holiday atmosphere here. Piraeus, traditionally the port of Athens, has been a very important Greek port for thousands of years, and it has now grown almost up against Athens. Piraeus has three ports:

  1. The (inter)national commercial port of Kantharos, where ferries and scheduled services also depart
  2. The round marina Zea
  3. The picturesque harbor Microlimano, where you will find delicious fish and a beautiful view

On the east coast of Attica, you will find Rafina, an attractive port and seaside resort. From here, numerous boats leave for the islands of Evia, Andros, Tinos and Siros. Just northwest of the city, you will find the beautiful monastery Daou Pendeli. This monastery, known for its unusual architecture, dates from the 12th century, and was completely renovated in the 16th century. Discover the culture of Greece easily from your holiday home in Attica.

History of Attica

Besides the city of Athens, you can enjoy a lot more history during your holiday in Attica. You will find the temple of sea god Poseidon here, one of the most beautiful excavations in Greece, situated on a high rock on the southernmost tip of Attica in Sounion. From here, you have a breathtaking view over the sea and you can enjoy a spectacular sunset. It is also a beautiful route along the west coast from Athens to Sounion, and you can swim here.

A visit to the town of Kifissiá, just north-east of Athens, with its stately villas and lots of greenery, is also nice. The pine trees of Kifissiá keep it relatively cool in summer compared to the warm capital. As early as the 19th century, the place was very popular with the elite of Athens who had their summer villas built here. Enjoy nature from your holiday home in Attica.

Greek holiday homes, where you can enjoy the sun, the sea and the beach

The original beaches of Attica are a mixture of sand with pebbles, gravel or boulders. Along the Apollo coast you'll find many landscaped, gently sloping sandy beaches with excellent amenities such as Glifada, Voula and Vouliagmeni. Would you rather take a refreshing dip in the pool?
