The massive Varberg Fortress guards the entrance to the harbor and can be seen in the distance. Take a walk down to the bastions and casemates, follow from the 13th century to our own time. Just outside Varberg is Getterön, one of Sweden's most famous bird sanctuaries. There are also exhibitions, a shop and a café. Another nice excursion destination is Åkulla beech forests and for those of you who are technically interested, it is not far to the world heritage Grimeton. Also visit the large shopping area GEKÅS in Ullared. For those interested in golf, there are several nice golf courses nearby, the closest being Klosterfjordens Gk.
