The Wildschönau Valley is a friendly, sunny high-altitude valley in the Kitzbüheler Alps with four villages: Niederau, Oberau, Mühltal-Thierbach and Auffach. Niederau is the best known of the four, with a lively après-ski scene. A popular attraction in Wildschönau is the Slow Train, called the Erlebnis Bummelbahn, which rides between the villages. This makes it possible to take a panoramic journey to Thierbach, the smallest, most idyllic and highest situated village in the valley. You can also take a trip to the Schönanger Alm at the end of the valley, where you can enjoy cross-country skiing on a beautiful and romantic but challenging 7 km-long high altitude track, go on a winter hike or enjoy the cosy warmth of the restaurant. Another option for a day trip is a visit to Hochseilgarten-Wildschönau near Zauberwinkl/Oberau. Here in the woods you will find one of the highest natural high-rope courses in Europe, for a different kind of off-slope adventure! In other words, there is plenty to do and see while staying in one of our holiday homes in Niederau, Oberau, Mühltal-Thierbach and Auffach. How about an apartment located directly next to the ski lift? Or a holiday home with a private sauna? And what about a detached group chalet that accommodates 20 persons? The choices are numerous for an unforgettable winter sports holiday in Wildschönau!
The Wildschönau ski area was awarded first prize in the 'Small but fun’ category by ADAC travel magazine. Wildschönau offers a total of 70 km of perfectly groomed slopes, from practice and wide, bunny slopes for beginners to FIS and speed descents, as well as Tiefschnee slopes for advanced skiers. Not only that, but it also has 25 ski lifts, 5 ski schools, 5 beginner lifts in the valley (Oberau), a fun park, 50 km of cross-country tracks, toboggan runs, ski routes and more. The Wildschönau ski resort is actually made up of two resorts: Schatzberg (in Auffach) and Markbachjoch (in Niederau). On the Markbachjoch (1500 m), you will find a steep slope for advanced skiers and the Race ‘n’ Boarder Arena (competition area that includes a training centre, speed tracks, slalom, giant slalom and fun slopes). Schatzberg (1903 m) is more laid-back and is particularly popular with families with young children, beginners and snowboarders. Snowboarders will find plenty of excitement at the fun park at Thalerkogellift (Pro-Jump, Quarter Pipe, High-Jump, Snake, Wave, Funbox). The 5 km-long natural toboggan course that runs from the Schatzberg middle station to Aubach also offers fun for young and old alike. Nighttime tobogganing to Thierbach is another option. There is also the mini family ski resort of Roggenboden in Oberau, which has two ski tows, an illuminated toboggan run and cross-country tracks. In addition to all the fun on the slopes, you can also enjoy the scenic winter landscape by taking a winter hike (50 km of hiking trails), snowshoe trekking or going on a romantic horse-sleigh tour! In other words, you are sure to have an enjoyable and relaxing winter sports holiday while staying in a holiday home or chalet in Wildschönau!
