Situated in the heart of the Savoie, on the edge of Vanoise National Park, is the Les Arcs / Bourg Saint Maurice ski resort. The mountain village of Bourg Saint Maurice (altitude of 1200 m., population 8,000) is the gateway to Les Arc ski area. From the base centre of Bourg Saint Maurice, the ‘funiculaire’ (funicular or cog railway) will in no time carry you up to Arc 1600, the lowest-altitude village of the 4 car-free villages of Les Arcs. Bourg Saint Maurice has an international railway station (TGV-Eurostar-Thalys), and is easily accessible by train (8.5 hours from Amsterdam).
Les Arcs consists of 4 modern, traffic-free villages located at different altitudes, which are connected by a free shuttle bus service: Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950, and Arc 2000. These are ski villages through-and-through, aimed at the winter sports enthusiast and situated in a superb ski area. Arc 1600 is the original and first resort of Les Arcs. Because of its reputation as a quiet village, Arc 1600 is especially popular with families with children. Arc 1600 was joined a little later by Arc 1800, the biggest and most lively resort, making it the best choice for après-ski enthusiasts. It is also the most conveniently located for the Vanoise Express and the La Plagne ski resort. Arc 1950 is the newest resort, beautifully situated and featuring charming & rustic traditional architecture (constructed in the Whistler Canadian style). Van Arc 1950 has a free télécabine service (Le Cabriolet) to Arc 2000. Arc 2000 is the highest resort, situated at the foot of the Aiguille Rouge (3226m), the highest mountain in Les Arcs. What it lacks in atmosphere and après-ski, it more than makes up for in location. Arc 2000 is purely for skiing and snowboarding. It is also home to the famous Olympic high-speed slope. Ideal for adrenaline junkies. Discover the many possibilities offered by this magnificent ski resort from an apartment or winter sports chalet in Les Arcs!
