If you are going on holiday with the whole family, then the ski resorts in France are a perfect option. The child-friendly ski areas in France can be recognised by the 'Family Plus' label. The ski areas with this label must meet at least 110 criteria, designed for children from 18 months and older.These criteria are mainly based on safety, type of activities, restaurants and accommodation. If you choose a ski resort with this label, you are assured of an unforgettable holiday with your kids.
An example of a French child-friendly winter sports resort is Les 3 Vallées. All three villages in this area have the 'Family Plus' label. It is also known as one of the safest ski areas in the world. As well as Les 3 Vallées, Val Thorens is also an excellent destination for families with children.
Austria is a very popular winter sports destination among the Dutch and with good reason. The villages offer excellent facilities and the ski resorts have modern gondolas. In addition, many Austrian ski resorts are perfect for families with children. From small to large areas, there really is something for everyone. Kirchberg is a very child-friendly ski resort. There are Dutch-speaking ski schools for children and children's areas. Here, they can enjoy themselves with fun winter activities. Another ski area that is fully equipped for children is Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis. All the amenities here have been carefully considered. This area has a special children's chairlift, so they can get up the mountain safely. This means they can fully enjoy all three different children's areas. They'll learn how to make the first turns on skis in a fun way. For the youngest snow babies there is a day care centre so you can enjoy the slopes in the large ski area with no worries.
Plenty of winter fun in the school holidays
If you are going on a winter sports holiday with your children, then you are probably bound by the school holidays. A major advantage is that there are many winter sports areas where you can ski during several of the school holidays.
When you go on a winter sports holiday with your children, there are, of course, a number of things to consider. The first questions that probably come to mind are: Is the ski resort really child-friendly? From what age can children take ski lessons? What activities can be done with children? And during which holidays can I go on a winter sports holiday with children? In many of the different ski resorts, you will want for nothing and neither will your children. There are several children's areas, beautiful practice slopes and friendly ski instructors to be found. On and around the slopes you can toboggan with the children, skate or enjoy delicious food in the chalets. A number of chalets even offer special children's menus, so there is something for everyone.
If your children are in primary school, they are of course tied to the school holidays. A major advantage is that you can ski in almost all areas during the Christmas holidays. In Austria and France, you can enjoy perfectly prepared slopes from the beginning of December. In general, the winter sports areas in Germany do not have guaranteed snow. However, you can enjoy a fantastic winter sports holiday during the Christmas holidays. Because we have at least 2 weeks holiday over Christmas, you can book a winter sports holiday in December or early January. What about Christmas or New Year's Eve, for example? During this period, the villages are beautifully decorated and there are fun activities organised for the children.
Because a number of ski resorts are at an altitude of over 2,500 metres, such as the Zillertal Arena in Austria and Val Thorens in France, these ski resorts can guarantee snow. The ski areas are open until April. This means that you can also book a wonderful winter sports holiday during the February half term/spring holiday. Don't worry about it, it's great to stay in the winter sports areas for every ski holiday.
Plenty of winter fun for children
The fact that the ski areas offer excellent facilities for little snow lovers is no big surprise. But in addition to the excellent facilities and child-friendly holiday homes, there is plenty to do in and around the ski resort. Most ski resorts have a great toboggan run and fun children's area. In all child-friendly ski areas, there are ski schools that are specifically aimed at children from a very young age.
During your winter sports holiday, a ride on the toboggan run is a must. Most ski resorts have at least one toboggan run. In Austria, tobogganing is very popular and well-loved by winter sports enthusiasts and with good reason. The longest toboggan run in the world is 14 kilometres long and can be found in the Austrian Wildkogel Arena ski resort.During the ride, you will encounter an altitude difference of at least 1,300 metres. The children will definitely get butterflies in their tummies. For the slightly smaller snow lovers, you can enjoy sliding down the mountain. If you haven't brought your own sledge, you can rent one at one of the toboggan rental stations in Neukirchen and Bramberg. There is also plenty of tobogganing fun to be had in France. For example, at the child-friendly ski resort of Val Thorens, you can toboggan on a 6-kilometre-long toboggan run. And you can also do some great sledging here.
Because many of the mountain lakes in Austria are frozen in winter, you can strap on your skates and enjoy the great outdoors on the ice with your children. There are also lots of fun games that can be played on the ice.If you want to enjoy perfectly prepared runs, then the kids can go to the children's area.
