This southern French region is called 'Le Gard' and is located in the hinterland of the Languedoc, next to Provence.
The most famous sight in this area is the Pont du Gard, an aqueduct listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. It is only a 20 minute drive away and should definitely be visited. The museum on the other side of the bridge is also worth a visit.
Other interesting places to visit include the canyons of Gorges des Cévennes, the charming town of Anduze, the papal city of Avignon the Roman town of Nimes with its enormous amphitheatre.
Some other ideas include a day trip to the vast sandy beaches of the Languedoc and a visit to the fascinating Camargue region. Explore on foot, by bike or on horseback - one thing you'll definitely see is flamingos!
