Italian agriturismo

In many cases you have a beautiful view of the surroundings from your own agriturismo. Sometimes the accommodation is situated on a large lawn and sometimes you are surrounded by vineyards and olive trees in a hilly landscape. One thing is certain, when you stay in an agriturismo you are always in a beautiful environment.

In many cases an agriturismo is located close to a nice, historic village. You can easily head here go with your own car or a bike that you can rent at the farm. Visit local museums or spend an afternoon on the terrace, sunshine, drinks or the ultimate holiday feeling.

After a wonderful day in a nice city or historic village, you can return to your familiar apartment or holiday home. Take a refreshing dip in the pool or walk in the cool shade of the fruit trees. You can then cook in your own kitchen or sit down at the table with the other families in the accommodation for a delicious local Italian dinner.

At many agriturismos, ingredients from local dishes and the most delicious fruit and vegetables are grown and produced by the owners themselves. From wine and olive oil to cheese and honey. You can go on beautiful walks between the grape and olive trees on the beautiful estate that forms part of the agriturismo.

At many agriturismos you can taste the products they grow on the estate. It is also possible to watch the process or even help with it. This is often great fun and educational, especially for the children. You can cook a delicious dish in your own kitchen using all these fresh ingredients in the evening.

Because the host or hostess still lives on the farm itself or next to it, breakfast may possibly be served in the morning. When you wake up from a wonderful night's sleep in your country-style room, you can often join us for breakfast. Nearly every agriturismo has a shared garden with barbecue. When you come home from a nice day out or just a day at the pool, you can prepare a delicious meal in your kitchen. Of course, you can also light the barbecue and grill a delicious hamburger.

An agriturismo is ideal for a family holiday. As the farm is located in a rural environment, you have plenty of peace, space and privacy. The children can enjoy playing in the large garden where in many cases a swimming pool and playground equipment are located.

In that large garden there is often a lot to do. Nearly every agriturismo has a (communal) swimming pool where the children can play, while you keep an eye on things from your lounger. In addition to a swimming pool, there may also be a playground or even an equestrian centre in the vicinity.

You may not be the only one on the farm. An agriturismo often consists of several holiday homes or apartments. Especially in the high season there are often several families staying there. This is great fun: it makes it easy for your children to make friends with the other children. Do you have any very young children? Then you can put them in bed for an afternoon nap, while you relax outside by the pool with your favourite book.

There is plenty to do, not only for the children, but for adults to. The agriturismo where you are staying offers cooking courses on a regular basis, so you can learn about the authentic Italian dishes. In addition, it is possible to rent bikes and mountain bikes in many places. This way you can explore the surroundings and make beautiful cycling trips through the landscape.

The owners of the farm also enjoy giving guided tours of the wine cellars or the landscape. Great entertainment while the kids are playing outside.

Most agriturismo's are found in Tuscany and Umbria. In addition to these two places, Le Marche, Siena, Puglia and Venice are also home to agritourism.

Feel like going out for a day? From your agriturismo in Tuscany you can visit beautiful cultural cities. In the town of Pisa you can climb the most famous monument of all Tuscany, the leaning tower of Pisa. Next to this tower is a beautiful square with a cathedral and many terraces. Other cities to visit include Siena, Florence and Lucca.  

Besides Tuscany, most of the agriturismos can be found in Umbria. Umbria is called the green heart of Italy with its picturesque houses in the green hills. Visit nice cities like Assisi and Perugia, with lots of shops, great architecture and sunny terraces.

Do you want to go to an agriturismo in Puglia? Then you should definitely visit Gallipoli. This is an old centre on an island, completely surrounded by the sea. Visit the beautiful cathedral and the great shops. Or go for an afternoon to Ostuni, the white city. One building is even whiter than the other, which gives a fairytale atmosphere.
