Aquitaine

This year, why not stay in a holiday home in Aquitaine in the South-West of France, a hugely diverse and increasingly popular region? The coastline borders the Bay of Biscay, famous for its high winds and mild climate. A true paradise for surfers and other watersports enthusiasts. But even if you come to relax, you'll be fine here. From your holiday villa in Aquitaine, enjoy the view across wide dunes, thick forests and sprawling vineyards. If you like swimming and sunbathing, endless sandy beaches, bays and vast saltwater lakes welcome you. Highly recommended, holidaying in Aquitaine!

Visiting wide sandy beaches from your holiday home in Aquitaine

The Aquitaine coast runs through the Bay of Biscay, the Côte d'Argent and the Côte Basque, all the way down to the Spanish coast. The Côte d'Argent with its Les Landes hinterland has lovely wide sandy beaches, tall dunes and a vast pine forest. With more than 200 kilometres of paths along the coast and through the hinterland, this area is ideal for a cycling or hiking holiday. Golf lovers will also be at home here. There are plenty of golf courses for both beginners and the more experienced. The bay of Arcachon, just across from Bordeaux, is known for its oysters, which you can taste in one of the local oyster-farming ports. Moving inland, there are Romanesque churches, small castles, vineyards and old fortified towns all within easy reach of your holiday home in the Aquitaine region.

The foothills of the Pyrenees in the south are a more rugged area where you can go mountain hiking and mountain biking. You can also go canoeing and rafting here. But the energetic people who visit this region often don't get any further than the coast, the place to surf. Both beginners and experienced surfers can enjoy surfing lessons and other water sports such as bodysurfing and bodyboarding all year round. The seaside resorts of Hossegor and Biarritz offer every amenity for today's surfers. Easily get to all the sports options available from your self-catering accommodation in Aquitaine!

A day out from your holiday home in Aquitaine

There are many other trips worth going on from your holiday home or apartment in Aquitaine, besides all the sports facilities.

  • The attractive port city of Bordeaux has a beautiful historic centre, many welcoming town squares, second-hand shops and luxury boutiques. But of course, the city is best known for its wines from the Bordeaux region. Wine tasting is highly recommended, as is a tour of the local vineyards. In the city itself you could also visit one of the wine museums.
  • The Roman city of Périgueux has a well-preserved historic city centre, with narrow streets where you can stroll about. The highlight is the impressive cathedral of Saint Front, which has been restored in a beautiful and unique way.
  • Biarritz is not only a surf city but also a fashionable one, with luxury hotels. Biarritz became popular with the Spanish elite in the 18th century, and the city has retained this character. Visit the morning market in Les Halles, and enjoy Basque cuisine in a restaurant at the old port of Port Vieux.
  • The famous pilgrim destination, Lourdes, is just outside Aquitaine and easy to get to from your holiday home.

Taking children to Aquitaine

Children will also have a wonderful time here, based in your holiday home in Aquitaine. A day at the beach can be alternated with a trip to one of the many zoos, such as Zoo de la Palmyre or Zoo de la Teste. In several places, such as Mimizan Plage, people can ride the beach on horseback. And for hardcore teenagers we offer tailored surfing lessons. So how about renting a Belvilla holiday home in Aquitaine and getting to know this region?
