Cadzand

Holidays in Cadzand, good food, relax and discover

Cadzand-Dorp is a typical medieval ring village in Zeeuws-Flanders, with the restored windmill 'Nooit Gedacht' and the gothic Maria church from the fourteenth century as main attractions. The charming houses in the centre give the village an authentic and distinctly relaxed atmosphere. In Cadzand-Bad, Zeeland's southernmost seaside resort, everything revolves around the sea, sun and beach fun. Pleasure seekers and connoisseurs can enjoy the trendy beach pavilions and the many quality restaurants. From your holiday home in Cadzand, you can also drive in no time to various destinations that are definitely worth a visit, such as fashionable Knokke, the unique nature reserve the Zwin or Bruges with its beautiful historic buildings and canals.

Shark tooth search

Cadzand-Bad is surrounded by beautiful dunes and is an oasis of atmosphere and sociability. Young and old, small and tall, appreciate the space and tranquillity. The seaside resort is also recognised as a Healing Seaside Resort', which means the sea water, the climate and the local produce contribute to health. Only two places in the Netherlands received this title. Good to know: the province of Zeeland has the highest number of hours of sunshine in the Netherlands. On and along the wide beach you can sunbathe, kite flying, volleyball, sailing, surfing, etc. At low tide, hikers head towards the Belgian border to the vast nature reserve of the Zwin. In the Zwingeul, the whole family can search the sand for shark teeth that are often millions of years old. But Cadzand is so much more than sea and beach. The vast dunes and the polders of the hinterland are perfect for a walk or bike ride. Everywhere, you will find well-maintained cycling and walking paths. These will lead you to picturesque villages, but also through vast landscapes with polders and creeks. There are several places where you can rent an excellent custom-made bike. There are also e-bikes available. During your visit, take a look at the Cadzanse Boerenkamer in Museum de Karrekasse in Nieuwvliet. There you will discover a local interior from around 1850, with dolls in traditional costume. This will give you a good idea of how people lived here at the time.

A hinterland full of pearls

A holiday in Cadzand is an ideal opportunity to visit the beautiful hinterland. The landscape is marked by man's centuries-long struggle against the sea. Salt marshes and mud flats, quays and dikes refer to this rich past. The Island of Cadzand, one of the oldest European polder landscapes, is still recognisable today. The historic Bruges, Ghent (described by the former French president Mitterrand as the best kept secret in Europe) and Sluis invite you to visit them. Families with children can visit the amazing underwater world of the Sealife Center in Blankenberge, or go to the Arsenal amusement park in Vlissingen.

Culinary top region

The Zwin region is known for its rich, high-quality and healthy cuisine. Nowhere else in the world can you find such a large concentration of Michelin stars. The cuisine offers honest and delicious local products, freshly picked on land or fished from the sea: lobster, mussels, oysters, sea lavender, glasswort ...

So be sure to enter one of the many cosy restaurants and enjoy the culinary delights. You don't have to look far to get there. In the 'Boulevard de Wielingen', the village street of Cadzand-Bad, there are several restaurants. The best known is probably Pure C by star chef Sergio Herman. The beach pavilions also serve well-prepared meals. Or just enjoy a refreshing drink or ice cream on a cosy terrace.

Also for an active holiday

Cadzand spoils its visitors every day of the year. You won't be bored for a moment. You can make a trip along the beach in a rented electric golf car (an unforgettable experience), at the entrance of the village you can visit the windmill Nooit Gedacht or admire the monument of the World Peace Flame project. This symbol of every human being's desire for peace is not a coincidence, but precisely because the region has suffered from war violence for centuries. Throughout the year, but especially in the summer months, there are markets in Cadzand itself and in the surrounding villages. Are you sporty? Even then, the possibilities are endless. In addition to cycling, hiking and water sports, you can play golf, go horseback riding through the woods and on the beach, go fishing... In the skidome of nearby Terneuzen, you can even go skiing! Then you can be pampered in one of the beauty and wellness centres. And then there are the numerous events such as the Lifeboat Day, the Liberation Festival, the Port Days of Terneuzen, the Mussel Festival of Middelburg, the Fishing Days of Breskens, the Zeeland Summer Festival, the Flying Dutchman Festival, Film by the Sea...Too many to mention. As you can see, Cadzand is the ideal holiday destination in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. And that for every day of the year and for any age.
