It is a huge area full of excavations, including several theatres and temples. At the foot of the Acropolis, you will find the Herodeion, an amphitheatre from 161. Port towns of Piraeus and Rafina

Just northwest of the city, you will find the beautiful monastery Daou Pendeli. This monastery, known for its unusual architecture, dates from the 12th century, and was completely renovated in the 16th century. History of Attica
Besides the city of Athens, you can enjoy a lot more history during your holiday in Attica. You will find the temple of sea god Poseidon here, one of the most beautiful excavations in Greece, situated on a high rock on the southernmost tip of Attica in Sounion. From here, you have a breathtaking view over the sea and you can enjoy a spectacular sunset. It is also a beautiful route along the west coast from Athens to Sounion, and you can swim here.
A visit to the town of Kifissiá, just north-east of Athens, with its stately villas and lots of greenery, is also nice. The pine trees of Kifissiá keep it relatively cool in summer compared to the warm capital.
