Parisian charm in the heart of the Marais !

I will begin at the beginning. We arrived at what we thought was the address for the room. Only to find out that the address was for the key box for the place at a different address. Showed up 45 minutes after check in and the keys were not there. After an email with no response, a young lady shows up, gives us the key. I try to open the door and she informs us that this was not our room, but that we had to walk with our luggage about three streets and five minutes from there and then proceeds to walk away. Luckily it had stopped raining. We walk to our place that was not easily found, and used the keys to enter. Turns out our room is on the fourth floor, in Paris that means five floors, with no elevator. Wish it might have mentioned that on the website. Walked up. No number on the door. Figured it out and went in. The main area looks okay at first, but on closer inspection, one of the couches is dirty and the other is broken. The stairs that lead up to the bedroom are filthy and a death trap. No railing and very steep with no light. We get to the bed and the ceiling above the head of the bed is just over six feet tall, but it slants down to under four feet, so whoever sleeps on that side of the bed has to duck around. Really great if you have to get up in the middle of the night. The bed tilts in on both sides so that we could roll into the center. Only one light upstairs total and two outlets. Almost fell twice coming down the stairs. Don’t even think about taking luggage up there. Couldn’t find an actual house manual and the link to the virtual one didn’t work. Thus we had no internet. I reached out to the company in charge, by the way, they sent the directions on how to get into the place to my email, but used the wrong name, and it took them hours to get back to me on the internet. They never got back to me on how to use the tv or other appliances. They rarely got back to me at all and it was usually a different person every time. The bathroom may have been the worst part. It was a closet. You have to step up 18 inches to get into the two foot by three foot shower with a broken shower head, I had to use a clip to hold it up and it just trickled water out. Clearly not a space for a shower, for the shower curtain did not fit. The ledge above the sink is broken and tilts toward the sink, so you cannot put anything on it. The lighting in there is also terrible. When you go to leave in the evening for dinner, be careful, all of the stairway lights are burned out. There is more but this is the worst of it. After struggling with getting any communication from the company, I finally asked where we put the keys when we were leaving. They finally got back to me and asked me to return them to the same place. I asked if there was a more convenient location so that we did not have to drag our luggage there again and they never responded. One day prior to our departure we packed up, returned the key, interestingly there was a man there staying in the place that we originally tried our key and wanted to know what I was doing, for they, the rental company, put the key box inside the door frame of a different apartment that is a being rented. I apologized to him, explained my situation and left. We booked a quality hotel for the last night of our stay and enjoyed our first good night sleep in Paris. Not sure who wrote those other reviews, but they did not stay in the same place that we did. I will be asking for a refund.

The location is fantastic and the unit was left clean and ready for us. We enjoyed the neighborhood and were happy to be in Paris and enjoyed our stay. The ad on VRBO advertised a "king size" bed which is not true. It was fine to have a smaller bed, but the larger bed was one reason we chose the unit. The lights in the hallway of the complex do not work so it was pitch black walking up 5 flights of stairs. One of the fans was broken and the Nespresso needs repair. I reached out to the management company several times without a response during our stay. I thought that was unusual since this is the hospitality business.
