Winter sports in the Hochkönig skiing area
Maria Alm and the winter sports destinations of Dienten and Mühlbach am Hochkönig together form the popular, snow-sure and family-friendly skiing area of Hochkönig. This area has been called one of the loveliest in the Alps and has 150 km of excellently prepared slopes and 34 lifts, all in a beautiful natural setting. The Hochkönig area is a snow-sure valley, where the ground is covered in snow from late November to April, in addition to the fact that 90% of the slopes are equipped with snow canons. Read more about the skiing area of Hochkönig. While staying at a ski chalet in Maria Alm, there is no need to look further than the smaller ski resort of Maria Alm (780-1900 m) for fun on the slopes.
Maria Alm skiing area
Maria Alm has its own ski resort and is a great destination for families. A new connecting lift has been built between Hintermoos and Hintertal, creating a single continuous skiing area from Maria Alm to Mühlbach. A new lift has also been built in Bramberg, which connects Bramberg with the ski resort of Neukirchen (Wildkögel). There is a day care centre (ages 2 and up) in Maria Alm, as well as a children's ski school and two Hugo's Kinderlands (Aberg and Natrun). No holiday in the snow would be complete, of course, without sledding! There are two illuminated toboggan runs in Maria Alm (at Jufenalm and at Gasthof Kronreith). Looking for an activity other than skiing? The ski school offers not only the usual snowboard and ski lessons, but also a variety of guided tours, including a ski safari, freeriding and snowshoe trekking. Maria Alm also has two (beginner) snow parks, the Snowpark Schönanger (3 kickers, 3 boxes, Wellenbahn) and the Snowpark Aberg (Easy Line, including two boxes, a Wellenbahn and Show Kicker). For a unique experience, try night skiing: the slopes at Simmerlift (Natrun) in Maria Alm are illuminated every Monday and Thursday evening. A spectacular ski show is also organised every Tuesday evening that is famous for miles around! It is absolutely worth taking a look. Cross-country skiers will also find plenty of tracks in this area. The Hochkönig region has an extensive network of tracks (40 km), 30 km of which are in the Maria Alm area. You can also explore the lovely winter landscape surrounding Maria Alm by going on a romantic winter walk or horse-sleigh tour! Other skiing areas
It is only 15-20 minutes by car from Maria Alm to the ski resorts of Saalbach Hinterglemm and Zell am See. So, thanks to its central location, Maria Alm is an excellent choice of destination!
