Grisons is located in the south-east of Switzerland, bordering Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein. Grisons will not be chosen by most as their first destination, but in beauty, it certainly does not have to step back for other regions in Switzerland.
Grisons offers many hiking possibilities for the benefit of nature lovers. Various cable cars take you to breathtaking viewpoints. The rugged nature in this sparsely populated area will please many hiking enthusiasts and peace seekers.
This is also a very interesting environment where language and culture are involved. German and Italian are generally spoken, but English is usually not a problem either. The number of cities of any size is very limited. More extensive shopping and entertainment options can be found in Chur and St. Moritz, among others.
The Julier Pass takes you into the sunny Engadine. Another important tourist centre in this area is Pontresina, where the famous Bernina pass begins. Via this pass, you will reach Val Poschiavo, where the culture and language lean more to Italian than Swiss. The same goes for the weather, of which the vineyards offer convincing proof. In the Lower Engadine you will find the spa town of Scuol and a beautiful natural park, among other things.
Some of the best places to visit are the Crestasee lake, Alp Grüm, Tektonikarena Sardona – a UNESCO World Heritage site, Heidi village & Heidialp (of the world-famous Heidi stories fame), and Engadine.
Travelers with a sweet tooth should try Maluns and Bündner Nusstorte. Capun (egg batter, dried meat, wrapped in leaves of Swiss chard) with Salsiz (local salami) is also a great dish to try.
