In the front part of the Bavarian forest, you will find Sankt Englmar, the most famous mountain village of the winter sports region. The local shops are centralised around the church and the old village centre is still authentic. During the high season there are twice as many tourists in the village than locals. The descents in this wintersportregion vary between 650 and 1048m altitude, and they are suitable for beginners or enthusiastic langlaufers. 70km of romantic loipes run through snowy forests - and are at your disposal! There are 3 mountains in St. Englmar that reach the 1000m mark, the Hirchenstein (1095 m), the Pröller (1048 m) and the Predigtstuhl (1024 m) which even give you a view on the Alps by clear weather. The three ski areas near the village are not linked together. The do offer a communal point pass however.
St. Englmar offers, besides skiing and langlauf, numerous other winter activities: you can go on winter walks on 50km of walking paths, guided walks by torch light or romantic horse drawn sleigh trips, or sleighing. You will not have time to get bored in Sankt Englmar!
