The ski resort of La Plagne (altitude 1250-2100 m.) is situated in the Savoie and is made up of different villages, each with their own unique character. The 6 high-altitude resorts (1800 to 2100m) are the most famous; Aime la Plagne, Plagne Center, Plagne Bellecôte, Belle Plagne, Plagne 1800 and Plagne Villages/Soleil, of which Belle Plagne is the most atmospheric. Due to their proximity to the ski slopes, these villages mainly serve a functional purpose. Featuring apartment complexes and atmospheric Savoyard-style wooden chalets, all of the villages are served by a free shuttle bus. The high location has one big advantage: many of the ski slopes are right on your doorstep. And you can enjoy breath-taking views of the snow-capped mountains! Situated further down the slopes are the villages of Plagne Montalbert (1350 m.), Montchavin (1250 m.), Les Coches (1450 m.) and the rustic charms of Champagny and Vanoise. La Plagne itself is a vast ski resort, with 225 km. of excellent, varied ski slopes for every level of skier (18 black, 33 red, 69 blue, 10 green) and 102 ski lifts, and is suitable for families with children, beginners and advanced skiers. Snowboarders and freestylers are also spoiled for choice; the Snow Park at Belle-Plagne, with 2 freestyle zones, a Fun Zone and Freestyle Motion at Plagne Montalbert, a Half-pipe, Boardercross and Big Air Bag. Unique in France is the Olympic-sized bobsleigh run!
